The rise of digital nomads, which is expected to reach 1 billion by 2035, needs game-changing innovations that will revolutionise the relocation industry. Despite these developments, the human aspect is more crucial than ever.
TIRA hosted its first webinar, “What’s Next in the Evolution of Global Mobility?” on Tuesday, 4 April. Thought leaders from around the world shared their perspectives on the future of global mobility including strategies to support the new global workforce.
Employee relocation can be a difficult task, especially for large corporations with large teams to manage. It necessitates a great deal of forethought, coordination, and attention to detail. That is why working with a professional relocation company is critical.
29/08/2024Blog / Industry InsightsTIRA Members Understand & Deliver Local Schooling Support
TIRA members understand first-hand that expert schooling assistance for transferees with school-age children can be a dealbreaker in accepting an assignment. Importantly, schooling support for children affects the entire family’s adjustment and successful assimilation to their new location.
Engaging with local education experts will help families identify the best-fit school options for their child to align with the parents’ education goals.
Factors to consider when researching best-fit schools when on an international assignment include: a school’s culture, location of the school, diversity of student population, support services and activities offered, curricula suited to students’ interests and strengths, affordability, and alignment with parent’s longer-term educational goals for their child.
Our TIRA members in the UAE, Sweden, Singapore, Italy, and New York City share their knowledge of the educational landscape and highlight their high-touch support.
Facts about the education landscape:
EER Middle East shares that one of the most unique aspects of education in the UAE is the diversity of curricula available for prospective students. With such an international population, assignees can pick the education pathway that best suits their child. The top curricula offered include the UK, the USA, and the International Baccalaureate.
Nimmersion in Sweden is recognized for its inclusivity and strong student support. The school year typically starts in mid-August and concludes in early June. The school year is divided into two main terms: the autumn term (August to December) and the spring term (January to June). Education is free from compulsory school through university, and the government heavily subsidizes preschool, making it accessible for all families. Meals are included at both preschool and compulsory school levels and are provided at no cost to students during school hours. Additionally, school supplies are usually covered during compulsory school, ensuring all students have the necessary study materials. This approach highlights Sweden’s dedication to educational equality. Importantly, students in Sweden are encouraged to develop critical thinking and critical thinking skills, often with greater freedom in choosing their areas of study.
Relo Network Asia in Singapore reminds us that public and private education systems offer high-quality teaching and facilities. Most expat parents choose to send their children to international schools. Access to local government schools is extremely limited to foreigners and the application process is stringent. Application to local schools and school allocation is centrally managed by the Ministry of Education (MOE), no local school tour is allowed.
Relo Network in Singapore anticipates challenges to obtain school places at certain top-tier schools. Parents can find French, Australian, Swiss, German, Dutch, Indian, Korean, and Japanese schools.
Overall, there are international school places available, however, families may need to be prepared not to receive a place in their preferred school, particularly a top-tier one unless they apply well in advance, i.e., at least one year or more. They recommend that parents have a backup school when applying for top-tier schools. Access to top-tier schools is still a significant challenge. Places for certain schools such as Tanglin Trust and United World College (UWC) are usually waitlisted, sometimes for up to 2 years.
Singapore American School (SAS) is also within this tier and slightly different as it focuses on the U.S. curriculum and offers priority to American citizens first, then those working for American companies second. There is still significant demand for places and waitlists are expected.
According to Principal Relocation Company in Italy, compulsory education in Italy lasts 10 years, from 6 to 16 years of age, and includes the eight years of the first cycle of education and the first two years of the second cycle, which can be attended at secondary school – state-run – or at regional vocational education and training courses.
The Italian education system is organized into segments. First, is an integrated zero-to-six-year system, non-compulsory, with a total duration of six years, divided into infant education services, which enrolls children between the ages of three and thirty-six months, and pre-schools, accommodating children between the ages of three and six years. There are four cycles of education, including primary, secondary, and higher education that universities, institutions in art, music, and dance, and higher technical institutes offer. Schools in Italy do not have an internal ranking system.
Foreign students who plan to continue their studies at Italian educational institutions and who are still of compulsory schooling age, according to the Italian school system, are enrolled in the class corresponding to their age, unless the teaching board decides otherwise, considering multiple factors and requirements to be assessed by school board.
NYC Navigator cites there are almost 100,000 public schools and 20,000 private schools in the United States as of Q1 2024. New York City Public Schools is the largest school system in the United States (and among the largest in the world), with over 1.1 million students taught in more than 1,800 separate schools.
Providing local schooling support to transferees with school-age children:
A local education expert can guide families through the school search and provide customized support to identify the best-fit school options. A local education consultant can ease the stress of finding a school where a child can thrive and do well.
EER Middle East knows how overwhelming moving to a new destination can be, especially for those with school-age children. Parents want to know that their child’s education will be high quality, allowing them to flourish. That is why they offer comprehensive support services options for finding the right school. From making recommendations and guided tours to detailed assistance with applications and registrations, their expert consultants ensure that parents can find the right fit for their children.
A unique feature of Nimmersion’s school support services is their personalized matching approach. The team considers the child’s educational needs, and the family’s preferences and plans. Their approach includes providing insights into various schools’ specific curricula and offering guidance on the differences between public, private, and international schools. In doing so, their consultants ensure these options align with the family’s needs. This approach helps them find the ideal fit for the child and the family. This provides a smoother, more comfortable transition.
As early application submission is key, Relo Network Asia partners with an education specialist to conduct an applicant’s needs analysis while transferees are still in their home country. They will make recommendations based on the profile of the child; preference of curriculum; and availability in schools of interest. The team also assists in arranging virtual or in-person school tours for the transferees and follows up with the application status with the schools, if needed.
Principal Relocation consultants have deep knowledge and relationships with leading International & Private School Institutes in Italy. The education consultants have built dedicated communication channels with the school’s admission. A local team member goes with the family on tour visits and provides information/guidelines on the admission process to navigate the school search process. Principal Relocation consultants are the single point of contact within the school to ensure the utmost attention is given to the children’s application. This is possible thanks to our direct knowledge and long-term and continuative relationships with schools in Italy.
NYC Navigator and New England Navigator’s educational support does not stop when they find the best fit public or private school for a student. Additionally, they can order books and private school uniforms, and be waiting at a family’s new home upon arrival, locate tutors, and even arrange swimming lessons. The company is deeply committed to ensuring the children are happy and well-settled throughout the relocation process.

22/07/2024Blog / Industry InsightsFive Habits for Adopting a Learning Mindset
We are living in a fast-paced, ever-changing world. It is an exciting environment in which to learn and take in innovative ideas and new ways of thinking.
David Novak, co-founder and retired CEO of Yum! Brands, Inc., one of the world’s largest restaurant companies in more than 135 countries and territories, shares 5 habits for encouraging openness to learning and listening to new perspectives and ways of thinking. Mr. Novak is also the Founder of David Novak Leadership, the parent company to four non-profits dedicated to developing leaders at every stage of life.
Interestingly, these 5 habits for adopting a learning mindset are aligned with the bedrock of TIRA’s operating principles.
Invite more truth-tellers into your life.
Find people who will tell you the truth so you can hear it and grow. TIRA members, a community of well-respected independent companies worldwide, invite frank talk and openness to listen and consider taking action. The global network leverages the experiences and wisdom of its seasoned entrepreneurs, as well as the fresh perspectives of their next-generation talent, some of whom have been included in various committees to help grow the association.
Learn to see the world the way it really is.
It is essential to see the world as it is to truly learn and grow. Truth-tellers can tell the truth, but listening with a willingness to listen to differing perspectives is key. Do not blindly trust the opinions that you hear. TIRA members regularly share vetted facts, and data and challenge the status quo. The value of learning more about the reality of situations enables members to take action to benefit their clients, transferees, and team members and the talent mobility landscape. TIRA regularly hosts member roundtables with experts in Wellness, Sustainability, Automation, and Cultural Sensitivity.
Give away credit for successful ideas.
Idea sharing flows more regularly when credit is given away. TIRA members believe in the value of giving credit away and crediting the source. Future-forward thinking in a safe environment benefits everyone and reinforces a commitment to excellence and to partnership.
Prime your brain for learning.
Our daily lives are often in the pursuit of completing tasks and projects. As such, we do not take time to stop, learn, and reflect. TIRA values learning and creates events, roundtables, and regular gatherings that encourage active learning.
Teach.
Research has shown that when we teach or mentor others, we are more likely to reflect and learn ourselves. Teaching helps reinforce what we may already know and validates our point of view. TIRA members invite and admire the diversity of thought. They build trusted relationships that matter.

Choosing the best AI tools to use for different use cases
Hearing real-world examples of using automation in the relocation industry
Learning ethics and responsible AI use (and for what not to use AI for!)
The member panelists shared their journey embedding automation into their company operations.
Brenda Levis, Chair and Director of Events and President of NYC Navigator shared how, “Using automation to develop neighborhood guides in a nano second has saved my team a tremendous amount of time. Of course, we make necessary edits to any automated document to ensure it is customized to each transferee and is up to date. For example, a museum or local restaurant may have closed during covid.”
“My team and I have discovered the fantastic benefits and value of using ChatGPT and automation. AI can be a helpful tool. We have learned by doing that asking the right questions of Chat GPT will rapidly get us the answers we need,” commented Simon Johnston of ICON Relocation.
Inigo Lopez, Founder of BiCortex Languages added that, “It is important for leadership to get involved in automation and AI-related processes. My involvement has helped my team realize the benefits and reduce human error mistakes. Automation helps ensure we deliver our services and processes consistently.”
Alane Boyd eloquently concluded our presentation saying, “Start automating and you will see how it saves you and your team time and streamlines processes. Digitalization will help your company get through the nitty gritty, afford more time to personalize your work. Have fun with it.”

13/06/2024Blog / Social ResponsibilityCelebrating Nearly 30 Years of “CARE”: IKAN Relocation’s Commitment to the Environment
Since its inception in 1996, IKAN Relocation has held “CARE” as its guiding principle, encapsulated in its Manifesto: “do the right thing while doing things right.” Over its nearly 30-year journey, this ethos has driven IKAN to consistently prioritize the well-being of all its stakeholders.
In 2022, IKAN took a significant step by incorporating the Environment as a key stakeholder. This was part of their comprehensive Environment and Sustainability Policy. Among several initiatives, one standout action plan was the commitment to an afforestation program, aimed at contributing positively to the planet.
Partnering with Impact Guru Foundation: A Green Vision
In 2023, IKAN partnered with the Impact Guru Foundation, a renowned NGO dedicated to environmental and health programs, to plant 10,000 saplings in Kanganheri Village near New Delhi. This project employs the Miyawaki method, a revolutionary technique developed by Japanese botanist Akira Miyawaki. The goal is to create an urban forest over three years, with a diverse mix of over 20 plant species. Once mature, these trees are expected to offset up to 20 kilograms of carbon emissions annually and absorb 44 pounds of harmful pollutants.
A Day of Hope and Action
On August 20, 2023, the planting event was filled with excitement and hope. IKAN, alongside Impact Guru, embarked on transforming a barren piece of land into a vibrant, biodiverse forest. The event saw participation from IKAN employees, clients, assignees, families, partners, and the Impact Guru team, all united in their commitment to a noble cause. This collaborative effort underscored the collective responsibility towards environmental stewardship.
A Long-term Commitment to Sustainability
Planting saplings is just the beginning of IKAN’s long-term vision. The company has pledged a three-year commitment to maintain these saplings, ensuring they receive the necessary care to thrive. This maintenance commitment is crucial for ensuring that the new forest will have a lasting positive impact on the local ecosystem and community.
Each tree planted under IKAN’s sponsorship is dedicated to global mobility colleagues and friends, symbolizing a global commitment to environmental sustainability. Participants in the planting event received certificates, marking their contribution to this significant environmental initiative.
Conclusion
IKAN Relocation’s nearly 30-year journey reflects a steadfast dedication to its core values, particularly “CARE.” The collaboration with Impact Guru Foundation and the commitment to creating an urban forest in Kanganheri Village are testaments to IKAN’s enduring pledge to do the right thing while doing things right. As these saplings grow, they will stand as living symbols of IKAN’s dedication to sustainability and environmental care.

11/06/2024Blog / Industry InsightsLeading with Empathy
Empathy is the ability to see things from another person’s perspective and feel their emotions. This understanding helps relocation professionals act with compassion to improve on and enhance a relocating families’ experience. Relocating can be a significant transition for families, filled with excitement, apprehension, and even sadness about leaving familiar surroundings behind.
The International Relocation Associates (TIRA) members share ways to support their transferees and their families when moving to anywhere in the world. Every independently owned member company leads their business with empathy. Offering empathy during this time of transition can make a world of difference and set the course for a smooth landing in a new location.
Acknowledge Their Feelings: Let them know that it is okay to feel a range of emotions about the move. Whether it is excitement, nervousness, or sadness, validating their feelings can help them feel understood.
Ikan Talent Mobility’s brand manifesto combines efficiency and care. The company embraces the challenge of change and carves out a path where expertise meets empathy. Their values include boldness and a commitment to go above and beyond to ensure a smooth journey, even if that means taking strategic risks on their behalf – this may mean respectfully steering their clients away from decisions that may not work in their favor.
Listen: Sometimes, all someone needs are to know that they are heard. Encourage them to share their thoughts and concerns prior to, during, and after the move. Avoid judgment and simply be present to hear what they have to say.
ICON Relocation developed an AI-generated online chat that supplements their consultants’ tailored support. Clients are reassured knowing the team is available whenever needed.
Offer Practical Support: Moving involves coordination and planning, which can be overwhelming. For example, offer to help with finding a new home, learning the language, researching schools, and spouse/partner employment opportunities in the new area. Practical assistance tailored to their individual needs can alleviate the stress and isolation they may be feeling.
Relocation Belgium offers tailored workshops to help clients prepare for tax season, either on-site at the client’s company or digitally, designed to explain how to fill out your tax forms. Their workshops are perfect for employees on the Belgian payroll without complex salary structures. These sessions provide practical tips and insights to optimize transferees’ returns, ranging from understanding deductions to navigating legal nuances. Whether someone is an expatriate or a Belgian national, these sessions are crafted to equip transferees with the knowledge and tools needed to tackle their tax declarations with confidence.
Share Your Own Experiences: If you have gone through a similar relocation, sharing your own experiences can be comforting. It shows them that they are not alone, you have lived in their shoes, and that you understand what they are going through.
EO Mobility implemented “Take 3 to the Sea” so that whenever someone goes to the beach, they pick up 3 pieces of waste and recycle them. This initiative gets their relocated families and the team involved and connected to their host community, culture, and each other.
Stay Connected: Moving to a new place can feel isolating, especially in the beginning. Stay connected with the relocating family through calls, texts, or video chats. Let them know that you are there for them, even from a distance. While moving can be challenging, it also presents opportunities for growth and new experiences. Encourage the family to focus on the positives of their new adventure, whether it is exploring a new city, making new friends, or starting fresh.
NYC Navigator hosts regular events and activities located throughout NYC to engage their relocated employees and families into the community and introduce them to others. Many families have made long-lasting friendships from these high touch gatherings. Transferees who moved to NYC up to seven years ago, still attend these scheduled events.
Practice Patience: Adjusting to an unfamiliar environment takes time. Be patient with the family as they navigate this major life transition. Offer support, encouragement, and practical guidance. Help them to feel welcome.
Relocating to a new country can be both an exciting and daunting experience, especially when moving to a culturally rich and vibrant place like Luxembourg. European Relocation Services understands that every transferee and their family bring unique hopes, fears, and expectations. Therefore, empathy is the core to their values. Their empathetic approach is reflected in their personalized orientation programs, which include detailed cultural briefings and neighborhood tours that cater to the family’s interests and preferences. The company recommends different social events that allow new arrivals to connect with other expatriates and residents, fostering a sense of community and belonging. This approach helps transferees and their families to not only adapt to life in Luxembourg but to truly thrive in their new home.
Follow Up: Check in with the family periodically, even after they have settled into their new home. Moving can be a rollercoaster of emotions, and it is important to continue offering support as they adjust to their new surroundings. Be mindful of the families concerns and offer timely support and resources to demonstrate your caring and expertise.
BiCortex Languages regularly checks in with their learners and trainers throughout their course, and they recently made changes to improve engagement. Now they give everyone a choice of ways in which to give feedback; a phone/video call, an email, a star rating or a short series of questions. The company has learned that giving choice and flexibility has significantly improved their response rates, which in turn allows them to identify themes and improve delivery.
Global mobility is an industry of caring professionals. By providing empathy and support to relocating families, we can all help ease the transition for transferees and families on the move and make their experience a little less daunting.

22/05/2024Blog / Industry InsightsVersatility & Agility: Strategies for Navigating Uncertainty and Change
How is your organization leading through change and unanticipated turbulence?
The International Relocation Associates, (TIRA) recently hosted an in-depth webinar with members, Irina Yakimenko, Managing Partner at Intermark ; Karen Cygal, CEO and Co-Founder at Global IQ; Rajul Batra, Managing Partner at Hudson McKenzie with special guest, Melissa Myer, Director, Global Mobility at Mastercard, and moderated by TIRA Partner, Susan Ginsberg, Founder at SRG ADVISORY. TIRA’s Chair, Brenda Levis, President at NYC Navigator and New England Navigator welcomed the attendees.
We heard their views on the World at Work and Talent Mobility landscape and learned pragmatic examples from them on their organization’s transformation, how they empower their teams, demonstrate agility, and in instances, have revised their companies’ mission and performance metrics in pursuit of purpose and growth.
The panelists reflected on the ever-changing geopolitical, economic, and work landscape.
Versatility mitigates unpredictability.
Melissa Myer, Director Global Mobility at Mastercard shared, “We are changing the way we are working and looking at things. As a company, we are being more creative, flexible, and high touch. We are pivoting, adopting new skill sets, and exploring how to accomplish our key objectives.”
Irina Yakimenko added, “We operate and manage in the region where there are two wars and other conflicts. Our business has been uprooted, and as such the Duty of Care has prevailed over everything. We are looking at how we support our clients, our transferees, and our own team. This means listening closely to our stakeholders and developing new services, implementing risk assessment and mitigation measures, and growing our business in Eastern Europe and the Balkans.”
Susan Ginsberg commented that siloed operational models are becoming obsolete and cumbersome. She asked the panelists to share examples of how they nurture an inclusive company culture.
Agility is an essential skill.
Rahul Batra reflected that, “We came out of the pandemic and Brexit being more resilient and are proudly a net zero firm. Our company is now fully remote and digital, and that has helped us manage the onslaught on business. Importantly, our team knows we trust them, and they trust us. Our diverse team members are loyal and appreciate our flexibility. We plan fun monthly events to spark our collegiality and enterprising spirit.”
Global Mobility is adopting a changed mindset. That is, evolving as an interdependent ecosystem that leverages an automated process, helps drive down costs and duplication, and enables time-saving efficiencies to allow for solutions-creation and innovation – while ensuring high touch support remains essential.
“Beginning three years ago, our firm was built on automation, AI, and machine learning. We have leaned into how we source our business, how we scale ourselves and others. We are fully a net zero firm, too. We are delighted that our entire global team is invested in and feels part of our journey and growth,” remarked Karen Cygal.
TIRA is committed to planning worthwhile member events and roundtables, enhancing their social media presence, fostering community with membership, and leveraging members’ collective thought-leadership. Brenda Levis shared, “We are optimistic about the future of TIRA and global talent mobility.”

25/03/2024Blog / Industry InsightsCreating the Future of Talent Mobility
“Successful entrepreneurs know that the best way to predict the future is to create it.” — Peter Drucker, management consultant and author.
The International Relocation Associaes (TIRA), an allied network of independent business entrepreneurs invites collaboration, learning, shared support, and curiosity. Members share their consultative expertise that adds value to the wider global mobility industry.
The network thrives because members:
Stay open-minded. Approach situations with a willingness to explore and learn. Avoid preconceived notions and judgments. Every independently owned company, every client, every transferee knows something that one of us does not know. Keep an open mind.
Ask questions. Develop a habit of asking questions about the world and how other organizations operate. Once a member asks a question or solicits feedback – they listen, truly listen – to the answer, and take the feedback to heart.
Seek new ways of thinking. Step out of our comfort zone and welcome ideas. Explore new perspectives that spark innovative solutions and support the movement and acquisition of talent.
Embrace uncertainty. Change is the only constant. Curiosity thrives in situations where there are gaps in knowledge. TIRA members actively take part in network-sponsored roundtables, chats, and webinars. Leverage members’ thought leadership and the wider talent mobility industry.
Engage in active listening. Listening to and learning from their valued clients, transferees, and each other helps provide balanced perspectives.
Connect with others. Engage in discussions with people who have diverse backgrounds, interests, and expertise. As a network with over 50 members and more than 500 locations, TIRA welcomes varied cultural and business outlooks. These perspectives can inspire new lines of inquiry and fuel curiosity that can drive local solutions to global talent issues.
Enjoy socializing. Approach business interactions with open-mindedness and enjoy each other’s company at worldwide industry events. Try out ideas, experiment with solutions, and take strategic risks.

19/02/2024Blog / Industry InsightsThe World Economic Forum recently published their Future of Growth Report 2024. The report provides a framework that looks at four pillars, innovativeness, inclusiveness, sustainability, and resilience. These overall findings, at a macro level, derive from Chief Economists. They present opportunities and a realization that the world is only halfway to achieving growth.
“A simple ‘return’ to GDP growth is not enough,” says Saadia Zahidi, the Forum’s Managing Director for the Centre for the New Economy and Society. “Instead, each country must undertake a unique and complex journey towards achieving innovative, inclusive, sustainable and resilient growth.”
What do these four pillars mean for TIRA and the Relocation Industry?
The International Relocation Associates (TIRA), a global network of independently owned relocation companies, is aligned with WEF’s pillars. These pillars are the key drivers for its member companies, and they count on TIRA to provide initiatives and learning that supports members’ growth trajectory.
Innovativeness – members have invested time and resources into technology innovation, including Generative AI. In doing so, members exchange the benefits of improved productivity, time management, and managing costs. At the same time, they openly share the challenges for team members to learn new ways of working and embracing change.
Inclusiveness – founded over 40 years ago, the global association was created to be inclusive. A key TIRA priority invites varied insights and perspectives with a keen eye on finding pragmatic solutions that add value to clients, transferees, and each organization.
Sustainability – member companies are committed to reducing their carbon footprint and have implemented measures to impact climate change. Members have become or are in the process of becoming certified by EcoVadis, a company that guides sustainability performance and helps achieve sustainability goals around the world.
Resilience – TIRA helps HR/Mobility leaders navigate economic uncertainty and geopolitical turbulence. They offer innovative solutions to global workforce and talent challenges. They are dedicated to delivering consistent quality and expertise and working in collaboration with valued clients and other service providers. Additionally, the network offers a safety net for trusted encouragement amongst its membership.
We would love to hear from you. Learn about us at TIRA. Your trusted global network of local relocation experts.

01/02/2024Blog / Industry InsightsThere is value to being part of an association. Some of the key benefits are that it strengthens business connections, supplies access to current information and trends, provides opportunities to gain new insights and perspectives, and potentially develop long-lasting relationships.
Most associations offer learning opportunities, and the membership cost is outweighed by the learning, networking, and professional development.
Why become a member of The International Relocation Association (TIRA)?
As a global network of leading, independently owned relocation companies, TIRA offers tangible value.
TIRA is your trusted global network of local relocation experts. The association’s core principles are clear – standards, expertise, and collaboration.
Standards: delivering consistent service excellence to their valued clients and their transferees is paramount. These standards reflect TIRA’s 40-year history and “Stamp of Quality.” Members are vetted for their quality metrics and undergo a rigorous review before becoming a member.
Expertise: the value of each member having knowledge combined with years of honed experience offers thought leadership, caring, and empathy.
Collaboration: the combined strength of the global network exceeds the strength of each individual member company. Members gain fresh perspectives from all over the world, engage in innovation-sharing, and are enriched by professional development. Trusted partnerships deliver tangible outcomes and local solutions to the ongoing challenges of talent mobility.
TIRA members help navigate the uncertainty of talent mobility. Count on TIRA to deliver successful outcomes on behalf of their clients and transferees.

Additionally, we are in the process of reviewing several outstanding prospective companies for membership and aim to complete this process soon. Thank you, Veronique Haverhals at RSH Relocation Services Holland and Sylvie Schmit at European Relocation Services for your hard work.
Our events calendar was quite busy this year. TIRA hosted a members’ roundtable organized by Brenda Levis, Vice Chair and Director of Events, and President of NYC Navigator and New England Navigator, “Working Together Towards a Sustainable Future” with special guest Cristina Venegas from EcoVadis. Members learned from EcoVadis, a trusted global sustainability ratings partner and discussed how to transform their companies. Members view sustainability as a mission-critical imperative to create long-term value by considering how each organization operates in their ecological, social, and economic environments. Members believe that sustainability is built on the assumption that developing pragmatic strategies fosters company longevity. Since the roundtable, nine TIRA members have been certified by EcoVadis.
A valuable benefit of being a member of TIRA is its commitment to learning and sharing knowledge. In September, the network hosted a roundtable for its members around the world, “How to Use AI and Automation in Your Business” led by AI specialist, Alane Boyd. Alane is Co-Founder of BGBO Co. an operations and growth strategy agency utilizing AI and automation to improve efficiency for their clients.
The Generative AI workshop focused on the intersection of AI technologies and their impact on the processes, efficiency, and experiences within the global relocation industry. Members have a thirst for knowledge and look to the allied network to introduce the latest information, top-notch speakers, and trends for which all members can grow, and therefore, their businesses thrive. Since the remote workshop, members have shared that utilization of Generative AI has improved their team’s productivity, simplified mundane tasks, and enabled more time to dedicate to high touch support of their transferees and innovating solutions.
In October, TIRA hosted a boat cruise around Boston Harbor during the Worldwide ERC’s October Global Workforce Symposium in Boston. Members from around the world invited guests including corporate clients, RMCs and potential TIRA members. Close to fifty people attended the warm afternoon event.
Christine Martin, TIRA Chair shared, “I was delighted with the positive feedback about the cruise. I am very proud to lead this wonderful organization of agile and innovative entrepreneurs. On behalf of the Board and members, we thank Brenda for the time and effort she consistently puts forth to organize worthwhile and enjoyable events.” Brenda Levis is a New Englander at heart. She commented, “I was born and raised in New Hampshire and am proud to share my New England roots. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and had fun!”
Chris Dash from Dogtainers, a pet travel specialist company will be our last featured members’ roundtable of the year.
Earlier this year, we formed a Marketing Committee led by Rohit Kumar, Co-Founder of IKAN Relocation and includes Deborah Loones, Founder of Relocation Belgium; Brenda Levis, President of NYC and New England Navigator; and Christine Martin, CEO and Managing Director of EO Mobility. Their creative efforts have enhanced the network’s marketing and PR initiatives, including members’ spotlight and regular articles that feature the association’s thought leadership, as well as thought-provoking articles from notable sources.
In November, TIRA launched #GlobalMobilityMatters discussions featuring an interview with Becky Woods, Sr. Director, Global Mobility at ADP. This conversation was the first in a YouTube series with corporate HR and Mobility leaders and our partner, Susan Ginsberg. Enjoy the conversation on TIRA YouTube Channel.
In 2024, TIRA will continue to focus on growing our membership, planning worthwhile member events and roundtables, enhancing our social media presence, and curating our thought-leadership. Next year, we will host a public webinar and continue with our #GlobalMobilityMatters series with corporate HR/Mobility leaders on the Future of Work and Talent Mobility.

09/10/2023Blog / Industry InsightsOne of the many benefits of being a member of The International Relocation Associates (TIRA) is its commitment to learning and sharing knowledge. The network recently hosted a roundtable for its members around the world, “How to Use AI and Automation in Your Business” led by AI specialist, Alane Boyd. Alane is Co-Founder of BGBO Co. an operations and growth strategy agency utilizing AI and automation to improve efficiency for their clients. In 2022 her company launched ARVO an AI-powered visual documentation software for creating standard operating procedures, training documents, and company knowledge. Alane has written and been featured in Entrepreneur, HuffPost, South by Southwest (SXSW), PBS, FemFounder, and many more.
First, why does the emergence of Generative AI matter?
The relocation industry is experiencing significant transformations through the integration of AI automation, revolutionizing how businesses operate and the serve corporate clients and transferees. AI automation is enhancing efficiency, accuracy, and the overall experience for businesses and individuals relocating worldwide.
Incorporating AI automation in the relocation industry streamlines operations, reduces costs, enhances customer satisfaction, and ensures a seamless relocation process for employees and their families. Additionally, it’s crucial to address privacy concerns, remain compliant with regulations, and maintain a human touch in critical interactions to build trust and a positive user experience.
How can AI automation be used to optimize TIRA members’ efficiency and enhance the customer experience?
The International Relocation Associates (TIRA) workshop on Generative AI focused on the intersection of AI technologies and their impact on the processes, efficiency, and experiences within the global relocation industry. Members have a thirst for knowledge and look to the allied network to introduce new information, top-notch speakers, and trends for which all members can grow, and their businesses thrive.
The discussion covered topics related to the three primary uses of AI automation: text, images, and video. Alane explained that the most asked question is, “Will AI replace me and my job?” Her answer was resoundingly, “No. It is not going to replace your job. It’s going to replace the most boring, tedious parts of your job.”
Alane went on to explain that Generative AI acts as an assistant at work and in your daily life. It is not human. It is not an executive. She commented that, “AI is the best assistant you could ask for. It doesn’t get tired. It is always available, and it is happy to do the work.”
As of March 2023, there were close to 15,000 startup AI apps in the U.S. The most talked about apps are Bard (Google), ChatGPT (Open AI), and CoPilot (Microsoft). Interestingly, Microsoft owns 49% of AI apps.
“AI is so much more than just ChatGPT. There are thousands of AI platforms available that can be used to solve your specific needs,” added Ms. Boyd. Examples of some exciting new apps include Jasper that is helpful for content writing and gives a framework for itineraries, Krisp that deletes background noise, and Grain that records and transcribes. Given the rapid emergence of new apps, the AI Specialist recommended to search for www.thereisanappforthat.com to identify pragmatic apps to streamline work and improve productivity.
Members learned the many benefits and limitations of using apps. A benefit of using Generative AI is that it provides a starting place for and improves writing skills. One of the limitations of using an app is that if the input is unclear, the output will provide the wrong or inaccurate information.
Additionally, attendees emphasized the importance of always ensuring privacy and compliance.
Brenda Levis, TIRA Vice Chair and President of NYC Navigator commented, “My team and I have already discovered how using AI has saved us time, reduced costs and enhanced the experience of our valued clients and transferees.”
TIRA members are energized to make good use of Generative AI platforms. In fact, this article was written, in part using ChatGPT.
