Celebrating Nearly 30 Years of 'CARE': IKAN Relocation's Commitment to the Environment

TIRA Network

Since its inception in 1996, IKAN Relocation has held "CARE" — Commitment, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence — as its guiding principle. As IKAN approaches its 30th anniversary, the company's commitment to environmental responsibility has never been stronger.

The Miyawaki Forest Initiative

In 2023, IKAN Relocation partnered with the Impact Guru Foundation to plant 10,000 saplings near New Delhi using the Miyawaki method — a Japanese technique for creating dense, fast-growing native forests that restore biodiversity and improve air quality.

The Miyawaki method involves planting multiple native species in close proximity, creating a self-sustaining ecosystem that grows 10 times faster and becomes 30 times denser than conventional plantations. The resulting forest provides habitat for wildlife, sequesters carbon, and improves the local environment for communities.

Why Environmental Responsibility Matters in Global Mobility

The global mobility industry has a significant environmental footprint — from the carbon emissions of international moves to the waste generated by packing and unpacking households. IKAN's commitment to environmental responsibility is a reminder that relocation companies have both the opportunity and the obligation to minimize their impact and give back to the communities they serve.

TIRA is proud to count IKAN Relocation among our members. Their example inspires the entire network to think more deeply about our environmental responsibilities and to find creative ways to make a positive difference in the world.
